Bette Lou Harris

Bette Lou Harris, 99, passed away on August 17, 2024. She has been an Oklahoma City girl all of her life. She was raised at 1225 N. W. 27 Street. Her parents were Forest Taylor and Nannie Francis Goodwill Taylor. She graduated from Classen High School in 1942 and attended OU. Her dad owned a very successful bicycle, lawnmower, and gun shop called Forest’s on Classen Boulevard. Bette had three older brothers—Carlisle (Corky), Melvin (Bud), and Jack who adored her and indulged her wishes. Also, she had one older sister Videl and at Bette’s age of 12, her mom had a baby brother Bobby.

Bette and her first husband, Russel Holloway produced four boys: Rusty, twins David and Danny, and Bart. Rusty, David and Bart have preceded her in death. Danny is a lawyer in Oklahoma City as was his father. Those young men produced six grandchildren who happen to live around the world.

Bette’s second husband Ed Polk was the love of her life. They were married more than 30 years. They enjoyed the company of their friends golfing at the Quail Creek Country Club. Family was very important to Bette and many holidays were spent at her home feasting.

Bette and her last husband Jess Harris enjoyed many happy years together with friends and family. They would spend winters in Palm Springs where they owned a home. Bette and Jess enjoyed golfing, cooking together, and traveling together. They were active members of Quail Creek Country Club and Nichols Hills Methodist Church. Many stories of their adventures were enjoyed by all.

In addition to being an avid golfer, Bette loved to play bridge and was an excellent cook. She volunteered at Mercy Hospital for many years.

She is survived by a son, Danny Holloway, brother Robert Taylor, grandchildren, Lucas Holloway, Michael Holloway, Joshua Holloway, Sunny Hamichi, Taylor Holloway Milligan and Juliana Nicole Young; as well as numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

As a sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend, she will be greatly missed by all.
