Beverly Bea Thorsen

Beverly B. Thorsen, a devoted educator and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on May 20, 2025, at the age of 90.

Beverly was born on September 9, 1934, to Stella Beatrice “Bea” Mays and Floyd E. “Shorty” Mays. On December 23, 1966, Beverly married the love of her life, Clarence Gail (known as "Gale") Thorsen. Their marriage was a true partnership, filled with mutual respect and shared dreams. Gale preceded her in death on November 25, 2015, and their bond continues in memory and legacy.

Beverly was preceded in death by her parents, husband and sister-in-law, Annetta Brown. Beverly is survived by her brother-in-law Larry Brown, several nieces and nephews, and cousins Paula Bowles, Sandra Belden Ferree, Lee Beldon, Bob Mays, Judy Jaworsky, and Doug Belden. She was also deeply grateful to her devoted friends and caregivers from First Light Home Care, whose compassion and companionship enriched her later years.

Beverly led a life marked by intellectual curiosity, kindness, and strength. She shared her passion for learning with generations of students during her distinguished career as a professor at the University of Central Oklahoma, where she taught from 1968 until her retirement in 2000. Her dedication to education and her students left a lasting impact on the academic community she so faithfully served. Beverly’s life was one of integrity, intellect, and grace. Her influence will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

A memorial service will be held at Smith & Kernke on Friday, May 30, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., with a viewing from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., and followed by a small reception. Friends and loved ones are invited to gather in remembrance and celebration of Beverly’s life. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to three of Beverly’s favorite charities: America’s Vet Dogs, Smithtown, New York, National Park Foundation, Washington DC, or the Salvation Army, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
