Kay Harwood was born Caroline Jeanne Norris in Pueblo, Colorado to Don Norris and Joyce Black. Her mom later married Jim Caster in 1957. Growing up, her family lived in Colorado and New Mexico, but she spent the majority of her years in Oklahoma City and always considered herself an Okie. She graduated from Northwest Classen High School in 1966, studied at Oklahoma City University, and later earned her associate's degree in accounting. At age 19, she tried to cancel a blind date but failed. She married Jim Harwood on her 20th birthday in 1968.
His career in the Navy took her to Jacksonville, Florida; Monterrey, California; Long Beach, California; Fort Worth, Texas; Barksdale, Texas; Erie, Pennsylvania; Honolulu, Hawaii; Vienna, Virginia; Beaufort, South Carolina; Newport, Rhode Island; Norfolk, Virginia; and then eventually back home to Oklahoma. Along the way, she and Jim had three kids. During the early years, she helped to support her family as a part-time bookkeeper. She continued to work in accounting and did taxes for about 25 years. She began her lifelong calling of teaching English as a second language while in Hawaii. She added mission trips later in life and visited Ukraine and Hungary, where she would teach for a couple of weeks and then return later that year or the next and do it again. She later transitioned to teaching on-line English classes. She introduced hundreds of her students to the stories of the Bible and the heart of her Savior through her English classes.
She and Jim traveled the world; loved to visit and spend time with their kids, grandkids, and great grandkids; and were always up for an adventure during their 57 year marriage. She loved animals and her current babies were Honey, Gigi, and Daisey. She was hella crafty, as well.
Her sister, Vicki, is celebrating with her in heaven along with a slew of family. Celebrating her here is Jim Harwood; her children Glenn and Kimberly Harwood, Krista and Chris Lusey, and Adam and Laura Harwood; her grandchildren Brittany and Jordan Elliott, Alyssa and Cody Parker, TJ and Kayla Harwood, Hannah and Connor Kirk, Anna and Luke Pixler, Nathan Harwood, Jenni Harwood, Joshua Harwood, Jonathan Harwood, Rachel Harwood, Valera Lusey, Artem Lusey, Davy Harwood, and Bella Harwood; and her great-grandchildren Charlotte Reese, Caroline Elliott, Josie Harwood, Maggie Parker, James Harwood, and Q and Boy-Boy Kirk.
In lieu of flowers, Kay would have appreciated a donation to her favorite ministry, Michael Gott International Ministries at https://www.mgi.global/giving.
