Cynthia "Cindy" Tolbert was born on February 23, 1950, to Jack Burgess Tolbert, M.D., and Wynema Morrison Tolbert, RN., of Mountain View, Oklahoma. She had a brother, Gary L. Tolbert. She loved growing up in the small town of Mountain View. She loved music from a very early age, taking piano lessons from a much-loved teacher and playing various instruments in the band, in which she was also a twirler. She attended the University of Oklahoma and Southwestern Oklahoma State University, graduating in 1972 with a degree in English and a minor in business. On August 29, 1970, she and Jim Charles Wolfe began a wonderfully happy 52-year marriage. Their beloved son, Michael Tolbert Wolfe, was born in 1978.
Cindy and Jim moved to Ardmore, Oklahoma in 1972 to teach in the Ardmore school system. During Jim's subsequent career moves around the state, Cindy tutored students and worked as an administrative assistant for a financial services group. They made Oklahoma City their home in 1978, where Cindy volunteered with the Oklahoma Literacy Council and other church and civic organizations. Missing music, she joined The Canticle Ringers handbell choir of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in 1991. She dearly loved bells and made many good friends in the handbell community. She was on the board of both the American Guild of English Handbell Ringers and Central Oklahoma Ringers and Directors, and she published the AGEHR Area 9 (Oklahoma and Texas) newsletter for several years.
Cindy enjoyed volunteering in Mike's schools as he grew up. She never missed one of his baseball or basketball games, and she encouraged his musical interests. She and Jim always enjoyed having Mike’s friends around the house. The family enjoyed attending OU football games for over 35 years, going to the lake, being out in nature, watching beautiful sunsets, gardening, traveling, friends, their treasured grandchildren, and just being together. She also loved animals, especially dogs.
Cindy passed joyfully into the arms of Jesus with her family by her side on November 12, 2025, after a valiant battle with cancer. She is survived by her adored son, Mike; his wonderful wife, Meredith; and cherished twin grandchildren, James William Wolfe and Georgia Elizabeth Wolfe, all of Edmond, each of whom she loved so very much. Also surviving her are her nephew, Blake Tolbert; his wife, Manna; and their sons Milo and Jack Tolbert of Houston, Texas. Cindy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jim; her parents; her brother, Gary, and sister-in-law, Paula; and many other treasured relatives and friends. A Celebration of Life will be held at 10am Thursday, November 20, 2025, at Crossings Community Church Chapel of Oklahoma City.
The family is so appreciative of the physicians, nurses, home health, and staff who took such good care of Cindy. Memorials may be made in her name to Positive Tomorrows in Oklahoma City, Free to Live animal rescue of Guthrie, or a church or charity of one's choice.
