Daniel Lee Honiker Sr., affectionately known as “Big Dan,” passed away on May 9, 2026, in his beloved hometown of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, where his remarkable journey began on June 3, 1951. A man of unwavering charisma and charm, Dan was a luminous presence whose lively personality could effortlessly brighten even the darkest room. He was, in every sense, a devoted father, a joyous jokester, and a storyteller whose imaginative tales of adventure left lasting impressions on all fortunate enough to hear them.
Born and raised in the heart of Oklahoma City, Dan’s entrepreneurial spirit flourished as the founder of Oklahoma Building Services (OBS). His visionary zeal extended far beyond business. Passionate about restoring and flipping properties, he fulfilled a lifelong dream by creating Rose Rock Estates, a neighborhood that stands as a testament to his dedication, craftsmanship, and deep belief in community and family. Among his proudest accomplishments was raising his children to thrive and succeed, instilling in them the same grit, humor, and determination that defined his own life, while also maintaining treasured friendships that endured for decades.
Dan’s zest for life was reflected in the moments he cherished most: scenic drives down open roads, spirited Tuesday night domino games with close friends, and the countless opportunities he found to offer wisdom, encouragement, and laughter to those around him. His adventurous spirit became the stuff of family legend—whether venturing through the woods in search of the elusive “white-tooth beaver” or swinging from grapevine to grapevine on the way to the mythical “Bottle City.” Yet, above all, Dan treasured family. He was the enthusiastic ringleader of childhood creativity, organizing circus shows where children revealed hidden talents and laughter echoed as the sweetest melody.
He leaves behind a large and loving family whose lives he enriched immeasurably: sons Daniel Honiker Jr., Dillon Honiker, and William Honiker II; daughter Elizabeth Altizer; daughters-in-law Tiffany Honiker and Evelyn White; son-in-law Gary Altizer Jr.; granddaughters Ava Johnson, Hollis Honiker, Savannah McKenzie, Scarlett Honiker, and Harper Honiker; grandson Hunter Honiker; sister Jane Scott; brothers Jimmy and Tommy Honiker; sister-in-law Cathy Cook; niece Shayna Webb; and his longtime companion, Jenny Honiker, along with her daughter, Theresa Houston, and granddaughter, Genevieve Houston.
He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, June and William Honiker, whose memories remain forever woven into the story of his life.
A celebration of Daniel Lee Honiker Sr.’s extraordinary life will be held on May 15, 2026, at Smith & Kernke Funeral Homes & Crematory, 14624 N. May Avenue, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. The service will begin at 10:00 a.m. and conclude at 11:00 a.m., offering family and friends an opportunity to honor and remember a man who was far more than a pillar of his family—he was a steadfast friend, a guiding light, and a source of endless laughter and love.
Dan’s essence—a powerful blend of vitality, generosity, humor, and unwavering spirit—will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. He illuminated the lives around him and inspired others to embrace life with the same passion, warmth, and joy that defined his extraordinary journey.
