Doris Marie Jones

Doris Marie (Nelson) Jones, a dearly loved mother and grandmother, passed away at the age of 89 in Oklahoma City on June 12, 2026.

Doris was born in Chadron, Nebraska, on November 17, 1936, daughter to Ralph and Lorreto McNichols. She moved to Wyoming and earned a degree in education where she met her future husband. Doris had passion for education and remained a member of the PEO organization through the years.

Doris was first and foremost a devoted wife to her beloved husband, Peter K. Jones. She cherished her role as his partner and found great happiness in the life they built together. After they graduated from the University of Wyoming they married and moved to Pueblo, Colorado where they had four daughters. First, Cindy was born and then followed Liz Morse, Jackie Hill, and Kalene Jones. Family was the center of Doris’ world, and she delighted in watching her family grow, making her a very engaged grandmother to Kalene’s two daughters and son, Gracyn Costiloe, Emma Guenther, and Ezra Guenther. Liz’s children are twins, Logan and Olivia Morse and Sophie Morse. Jackie and Rob have Jackson Hill, Tyler Hill and Dillon Hill. Doris was also a great grandmother to four great grandchildren: Dawson, Parker, and Lyla Castiloe and Elian Morse.

Doris dedicated much of her life to teaching, a profession she loved deeply. She found purpose and joy in helping young people learn and grow, and she touched countless lives through her kindness, patience, and dedication as an educator. A proud moment was being awarded Teacher of the Year by the State of Colorado.

She found happiness in life’s simple pleasures: morning coffee, fresh air, music, and time spent with those she loved. She enjoyed listening to country music and knew every word to every Toby Keith song. She enjoyed taking trips to the beach in Rockport, Texas, and gathering with family, friends and new people whenever possible. Her laughter, warmth, and generous spirit made every occasion memorable and brighter.

Those who knew Doris will remember her as beautiful, fun-loving, compassionate, and endlessly giving. She had a gift for making others feel welcome and loved. Her kindness left a lasting impression on everyone, fortunate enough to know her.

Doris’ greatest legacy is the love she shared with her family and friends. Though she will be deeply missed, her memory will live on in the hearts of all who loved her.

The family celebrates a life well lived and gives thanks for the many years, memories, and blessings they shared with Doris.

Doris is preceded in death by her parents Ralph and Loretto, her sister, Lois Faulkner, her husband, Peter K. Jones, and their daughter, Cindy Jones.

Doris is survived by her three daughters and son-in-law, their children, and her brother, Richard Nelson, his wife, Judy Nelson of Hampton, Iowa along with her nieces and nephews.
