Elizabeth Theresa Carroll

Elizabeth T. Carroll, affectionately known by all as Betty, died on Feb. 3, 2010. She was born on Dec. 10, 1923, in Lykens, Penn. She was the fourth daughter of Joseph and Helena Kolvick. Betty attended schools in Lykens and then went to Westchester State College (now University) where she earned a degree in music education. She taught high school in Dalmatia, Penn., and then at Laurelton Village, a school for wayward girls. She always said she loved teaching there as some girls were mentally challenged but wanted to learn. Her most rewarding project was forming an orchestra for them. Betty met the love of her life, Frank Carroll in 1950, and they married on April 28, 1951. They raised 6 children in Pennsylvania before moving the family to Oklahoma in 1966. Betty sewed all the dresses for her girls and crocheted beautiful things for the home and for friends. She always played the piano and sang in the choir at church. In her later years, she took up oil painting. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Frank, oldest son, Michael, oldest sister, Marie, and her youngest sister, Regina. She is survived by three daughters, Kathleen Holmes and husband Robert, Jeannie Gardner and husband Don, and Judy Walz-Harris and husband Robert; two sons, Frank and wife Debbie and John and wife Poknae; daughter-in-law, Sue Carroll; two sisters, Florence and Aggie; 10 grandchildren, Brittany and husband Geoff, Ted and wife Stacy, Kristi, Johanna and husband Chase, Becky, Andy, Ben, Jake, Katie and Alex; and 5 great-grandchildren, Reagan, Camryn, Braydon, Logan and a little boy due in March; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended relatives and friends who love her and will miss her. The family would like to thank the staff at Jefferson Gardens Assisted Living for their care of our mother for the last 6 years of her life. She made many friends and played the piano often to brighten their days.
