Elizabeth Wilson

Elizabeth Schofield Wilson (Liz) passed away on July 11, 2025, after a long battle with breast cancer. Liz knew her primary purpose in life was to be a mom to Rachel Elizabeth Deutsch and Michael Joseph Deutsch. Liz loved all aspects of being a mom and the three grew even closer after her husband, Steve Deutsch, passed away when they were 8 and 14. They were her best friends. They talked daily, played games, watched sports, (especially The Thunder), took walks with the dog, attended NYC theater, skied, visited family, traveled to other cities and had movie marathons. She enjoyed visiting their homes in New York City, Los Angeles, and Boston. Liz was very grateful for Michael caring for her in her final months with assistance from Rachel, Jordan Werner and sisters Helen and Rebecca. Liz was appreciative of her kind friends taking her to cancer treatments in the past several years. Liz thanks her oncologist and medical staff at OU Stephenson Cancer Center, OU Hospital and hospice for their compassionate healthcare.

In the last decade, after attending the 2017 Women’s March in Washington D.C. with wonderful friends, Liz found her passion as a volunteer advocate & local political organizer with Edmond Democratic Women (EDW). She served as Recruit, Support & Elect Chair, Campaign Liaison to several candidates, (who were elected), Recording Secretary and then as the 2023-2024 President. Liz enjoyed mentoring others to do legislative advocacy, voter registration, precinct work and supporting candidates. She canvassed for many candidates even through the November 2024 election while undergoing breast cancer treatment. Highlights were when a NY Times reporter interviewed her and other campaign liaisons in 2018 after EDW helped get representative Kendra Horn elected to the U.S. Congress. Also, when EDW’s membership was doubled to over 400 under her presidency.

Liz highly valued friendships and regularly kept in contact with friends from childhood throughout college and adulthood. She is grateful for their love and support during her lifetime and cancer journey.

Liz was born in Lexington, KY and grew up in Morgantown, WV, her father’s hometown where she formed strong friendships, played the saxophone in the school marching and jazz band, tennis and swam on the local competitive swim team. As an adult, she enjoyed playing on a women's tennis league, running and entered 5K and 10K races. She graduated from Casady School, Oklahoma City and spent that summer in Brittany, France with an international group and became lifelong friends with the family. She reconnected with their daughter in summer, 2022 where they travelled along the coast of western France. Liz earned a BA in History and Sociology from Trinity University, San Antonio, TX and studied in Paris with the Institute of European Studies and the Sorbonne her junior spring semester and traveled Europe. Billed a bucket list item by going to both the French Open and Wimbledon that year. Liz earned her law degree from Oklahoma City University and spent a 34-year career working with Oklahoma Human Services, Child Support Services Division. She started as a State’s Attorney and Managing Attorney in field offices handling litigation and managing three local offices. Then she joined the State Office as Deputy Director giving legal guidance to staff, writing & implementing laws and policy, overseeing field offices and working on statewide projects and professional development. She presented many attorney and staff trainings locally and at national conferences.

Liz is predeceased by her husband Stephen Neal Deutsch; parents, Michael Friend Wilson & Clare Schofield Wilson; brother Michael Lowther Wilson and sister Sarah Anderson Wilson. Liz is survived by her children: Rachel and Michael Deutsch, sisters: Helen Horton Wilson, Rebecca Wilson Parry, stepmother Barbara Wilson, aunt JoAn Keadle, brother-in-law Charles Parry, niece Anna Parry, nephew Doug (Lara) Parry, great nephew Benjamin Parry and many beloved cousins whom she enjoyed memorable annual family reunions at Capon Springs & Farms, WV where she kept up with the young adults hiking and playing many sports.

Liz requests all who read this do two things: 1) Find your passion and pursue it now. Don’t wait. 2) Check in with Rachel & Michael as they are going to have amazing lives.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to the breast cancer research charity of your choice or a progressive democratic nonprofit that advances the protection of democracy.
