Emily Frances Ryan

Emily Frances Ryan (Burgert) passed away on October 20, 2022 at the age of eighty-five. She was born in Kaw City, Oklahoma on July 19, 1937 to parents Marie Harper Burgert and Robert Smith Burgert. She is preceded in death by her siblings James Robert Burgert, John Edward Burgert, and David Stuart Burgert. Her life continues to be celebrated by her living sister Sondra Louise Smith. Emily studied music and business at the Oklahoma College for Women as well as Oklahoma State University. She worked as an executive secretary at OG&E where she met her husband John Albert Ryan who precedes her in death. She was a dutiful wife and partner, using her knowledge and skills to manage the family air conditioning company, Ryan Co. Emily was a caring mother to her living daughter Susan Elizabeth Ryan and her son Thomas Albert Ryan who precedes her in death. Expressions of her care included constructing elaborate costumes as well as always having a home-cooked meal on the table. Her door was at all times open to her friends and neighbors, as well as a fresh pot of coffee brewing on standby for a visit. Her mischievous humor, piano playing, and frank sincerity will be remembered with love and affection. Beyond her immediate family, Emily is also survived by her son in law, Roy Nelson; her daughter-in-law, Katelyn Ryan; her beloved nieces, nephews, and grand nieces and nephews; as well as countless neighbors and friends. In celebration of a lifetime of avid reading and in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to the Metropolitan Library System Endowment Trust at 300 Park Ave., Oklahoma City, OK 73102.
