It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Fred Hoffman, Jr, who left this world peacefully surrounded by his family on July 3, 2025, at the age of 76. A beloved husband, father, grandfather, friend, and community member, Fred lived a life full of energy, faith, and connection. He battled dementia and ALS the last few years, but he never let that stop him from enjoying life with his ever present smile on his face.
Born on January 23, 1949, in Tulsa, OK. Fred grew up in Geary, OK, and developed a love for sports and music early on. He played the trombone in the school marching band, which started his love of music. He also excelled in both football and wrestling, playing with heart and determination that carried over into every aspect of his life. He won the wrestling state tournament his senior year of high school and also went on to play football at the University of Tulsa. And as he loved to tell everyone, it was at the University of Tulsa where he met his wonderful bride of 55 years, Maureen!
But what truly set Fred apart was his remarkable gift for connection. He never met a stranger—only a friend he hadn’t talked to yet. Known for his warm smile, firm handshake, and kind heart, he had a way of making everyone feel welcome. Conversations with him, whether five minutes or an hour long, often turned into treasured memories.
A man of deep faith, Fred found strength and purpose through his church, St. Eugene Catholic Church, where he was a familiar and comforting presence. He loved praying the rosary, fellowship, and singing in the choir. His life was a testimony to the values he cherished—love, humility, and service.
Nothing brought Fred greater joy than spending time with his grandchildren whether he was watching their games, telling them stories or simply sitting with them in laughter and love.
Fred is survived by his wife, Maureen Duffy Hoffman; daughter, Jenny Schultz, her husband Chris and their children, Joseph, Catherine, James and John; daughter, Liz Metz, her husband Greg and their children, Olivia and Amelia; his brothers, David Hoffman (Lisa), Tom Hoffman (Ginger), and Robert (Cathy); his sisters, Marie Lee and Karen Hoffman, Cathy Hoffman (widow of brother Mike Hoffman), three Duffy sisters-in-law and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Fritz Hoffman and Anna Lue (Lehman) Hoffman; brother, Mike Hoffman, and infant son, Fred Hoffman, III.
His legacy of kindness, faith, and joy will continue to live on in all who knew him. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on July 14, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Eugene Catholic Church (2400 W. Hefner Rd, Oklahoma City, OK 73120) All are welcome to attend and share in remembering a life so beautifully lived. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to St. Eugene Catholic Church or Sister BJ’s Pantry in honor of Fred’s enduring love for faith and community.
