Gary Jones

Gary Jones, born on December 12, 1937, in Fort Cobb, Oklahoma, the son of Eugene and Lollie Jones, passed away on March 20, 2026, in Edmond, Oklahoma.

Gary graduated from Fort Cobb High School and pursued further education at Southwestern Oklahoma State University with the initial goal of becoming a math teacher and basketball coach. His career path, however, led him to the construction industry where he developed a successful and fulfilling vocation. He began by working for lumber companies and a builder's supply store before joining forces with Mr. Al Lowery in home building. Not long after, he established his own home building company, specializing in custom-built homes, demonstrating his entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to quality craftsmanship.

An active member of Quail Springs Baptist Church and the Oklahoma Home Builder’s Association, Gary contributed significantly to both his profession and his faith community. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing and also enjoyed an occasional round of golf.

He is survived by his beloved wife of almost 67 years, Loretta, to whom he was married on May 29, 1959. He is also survived by his sons Cary, Gary (Shelly), and Lynn (Shelly); his brother Clyde (Anita); and his sister Glenda Birchett (Dale). He cherished his grandchildren, Gary (Paty), Austin (Megan), Samantha Martin (Justin), Katie Nixon (Alex), and Nicole Sample (Erick), as well as seven great-grandchildren. Gary’s extended family included many nieces and nephews who remember him fondly. His parents preceded him in death.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during a visitation with the family on Thursday, March 26, 2026, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Smith & Kernke on N. May. The funeral service will be held on Friday, March 27, 2026, at 11 a.m. at Quail Springs Baptist Church, 14613 North May Avenue, Oklahoma City, OK 73134.

Gary Jones’s life was marked by dedication—to his family, his work, and his community. His legacy is reflected in the homes he built, the family he nurtured, and the friendships he fostered throughout his lifetime. He will be remembered with respect and admiration by all who knew him.
