Hong Do (née Nguyen) passed away on April 29, 2024, at the age of 79. Hong was born to Guon and Xuong in 1944 in North Vietnam. She spent her life in Vietnam helping her family, ultimately working as a secretary in a U.S. Army hospital.
Hong fled with her family twice from communism: first, when they took over North Vietnam, and again in 1975. It was her work with the Americans that opened safe passage for Hong, her mother, and brother.
Hong traveled to the U.S. as a refugee and settled in Oklahoma City, where she became a naturalized citizen. It was there she would meet and then marry her husband of 44 years, Van. She went on to raise two daughters and worked various jobs to help support her family.
Hong persevered through stroke, breast cancer, diabetes, and heart disease out of love for her family. Hong spent her retirement years taking care of her house and doting on her grandchildren. She enjoyed learning new ways to cook like making bread in her bread machine. During her final years she noted the most important thing to do is pray. Her favorite things are roses and spending time with her grandchildren. Hong is survived by her husband of 44 years, Van, daughters Bach and Vietfil, and grandchildren, Eli, Danielle, and Grace.
