Irene Sigrid Hetherington

Irene Sigrid Nilsson Hetherington, 107, died January 31, 2022, at The Grand at Bethany. She was born November 15, 1914, in Oklahoma City and graduated from Classen High School.On May 12, 1935, she married Andrew Hetherington. She was a longtime member of Penn Avenue Christian Church where she served as a deaconess for many years and was a member of the Naomi Group of Christian Women's Fellowship and the Harbor Sunday School Class. Irene later became a member of Memorial Christian Church. She was also a member of Council Grove Extension Homemakers, past Royal Matron of Queen Christine Court, Order of Amaranth where she was Grand Officer for many years. Irene was also involved in the Order of Eastern Star where she received the Grand Cross of Color and was a member of Order of Rainbow Girls.She was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Frieda Nilsson; husband, Andrew; her son, Donald M. Hetherington, and her sister, Ingrid Lee. She is survived by grandson, Mark Hetherington, wife Susan and their children, Ryan, Aaron, and Kyle, of Crystal Lake, IL; granddaughter, Stacy Koesters, husband Brian, and their children, Hunter, Ben and Olivia of Lindstrom, MN; and daughter-in-law, Judy Hetherington of Des Moines, IA; as well as, numerous nieces, nephews and their families and a host of friends.Services to celebrate Irene's life will the Thursday, February 3 at 11 a.m. at Smith & Kernke N. May Chapel. Private burial will follow at Rose Hill Burial Park.
