James Duane Brown, affectionately known as J.D., Jim, or Brownie, passed away April 24, 2025. He was born December 31, 1939, in Cordell, OK. He graduated from Dill City High School and earned his bachelor's degree from Southwestern State University in Weatherford. He later earned his MBA from Central State University in Edmond and became a certified public accountant.
Jim served in the United States Air Force as a navigator and pilot where he received the Distinguished Flying Cross Medal, Distinguished Flying Cross Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Air Medal Bronze First Through Fourth Oak Leaf Cluster, and the Air Force Commendation Medal. After receiving an honorable discharge, he began a career in Civil Service, retiring from the Federal Aviation Administration.
Jim was a member of Epiphany of the Lord Catholic Church and was active with the Knights of Columbus and Senior Classics. He enjoyed participating in the Worldwide Marriage Encounter. When his kids were young, he was supportive in their activities as a Boy Scout leader and Girl Scout dad. He loved traveling and snow skiing.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy Calvin and Cora Elsie (Knight) Brown, and his first wife, Darlene Rose (Schacherl) Brown. He is survived by his wife Joy Evangel (Dennis) Brown, to whom he was married October 12, 2016. He is also survived by his daughter, Sharon Marie Sargent, her husband Brian, and their children, Carter Royse, Lila Elzabeth, and Victoria Isabel; his son, David James Brown, his wife Bucky (Eaton), and their son, Davis; and his beloved cat, Tabitha.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 am Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at Epiphany of the Lord Catholic Church. Interment will be at Fort Sill National Cemetery.
