Jeremy Christian Short, 54, a man loved by countless many for his kindness, hearty laugh, and wry humor, died peacefully at home on July 3, after a brave and relentless seven-year battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).
Jeremy was a bright and bold soul, full of curiosity and heart. After his family moved from Baltimore, Maryland to Oklahoma City in 1977, Jeremy attended Rosary and Bishop McGuinness Catholic schools and earned a Bachelor of Science from Oklahoma City University.
Jeremy’s love for travel and adventure was evident at a young age. Growing up he attended NASA Space Camp and camped regularly with Scouts – proudly earning Eagle rank, a testament to his dedication, leadership, and service. At 18 he began skydiving, eventually making more than 100 jumps, including in freefall formation with other skydivers.
After a few years living in Sacramento, California, Jeremy returned to OKC in 2003 and continued to make new friends anywhere he went. Among his many cherished places to socialize were Sipango’s, Cock o’ the Walk, and VZD’s. He was intelligent, thoughtful, and had a remarkable ability to connect with people from all walks of life.
Jeremy put his inquisitive mind to work by training for licensure as a private detective, which he achieved in 2016. He worked as a private detective until the symptoms of ALS began to manifest.
Jeremy is preceded in death by his brother, Dean Glenn Short. He is survived by his siblings Ellen and Brian; his loving parents Denise and Dan; his nephews Maddox, Sterling, and Connor; and his niece Vivian.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Jeremy’s name may be made to the Oklahoma Chapter of ALS JR Watts Foundation (https://jrwattsfoundation.com/fundraising-campaign/) where funds will provide essential equipment and support to Oklahomans living with ALS – honoring a life of strength and compassion.
We love and miss you more than words can say Jeremy. Godspeed, good buddy.
