Joanne Ruth Sheldon

Joanne Ruth Sheldon was born August 18, 1932, in Little Falls, Minnesota. She passed away on May 24, 2023, at the age of 90. She is now whole and with her Lord and Savior.Joanne was preceded in death by her husband John Edward Sheldon. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary before he passed away in 2014.Joanne was the youngest of 3 children: preceded in death by her brothers Frederick and Howard. Her father, Carl Johnson, passed away when she was in high school and her mother, Anna Emily Johnson, passed away in 1981.Joanne grew up on a farm near Little Falls, Minnesota, and after graduating from high school, she moved to Minneapolis. She lived in a boarding house and worked in a bank as a teller. Her roommate had a boyfriend and one night the boyfriend brought his friend, John, over and John asked her out. And the rest they say is history. They were married on August 27, 1954. Joanne supported her husband in all his job relocations from Minnesota to Gallup, East Albuquerque, Paradise Hills, and Los Alamos, NM. After their retirement they moved to Edgewood, NM.Joanne was a homemaker and loved her family. During the summer months she could be found in the backyard playing baseball with the kids. Her children fondly remember the time she broke the back door window when she hit the ball. She made summers fun as they spent a lot of time outdoors. She loved to read, sew, embroider, and was a collector. She loved to bake and any time her family visited they would be sure that there would be cookies or a cake waiting for them. In her final years with Alzheimer's her sewing was limited to aprons and anyone who visited was asked if they needed an apron. Many have been the recipients of those last projects.After John's death, Joanne moved to Oklahoma to live with her oldest son Joel. During the later years her caregiver Vivian spent many hours during the week playing dominoes with her. Vivian also provided valuable friendship and support during this time. The last year of Joanne's life was spent living at Eden Care where the caregivers loved on her until her death. Joanne asked one of her caregivers a couple days before passing, "Can I kidnap a nap?" Bringing a smile to all of us.She leaves behind her children Joel (Joni), James (Darleen), Judith (Craig) Booth, Julia (Andy) Andersen, Janice (Danny) Hoffman, 10 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. Also, sisters-in-law-Marvel Johnson and Priscilla Johanning.
