John David Colbert

John David “JD” Colbert passed away October 29, 2025. He was born June 14, 1943 to Anna Lou Kirkpatrick Colbert and John “David” Colbert in Bokchito, Oklahoma. David had shipped out with the 45th Division for North Africa a few weeks before John David was born and saw him for the first time after he was 2 years old.

JD graduated from Coalgate High School in 1961, attended East Central State College and graduated from Phillips University with a degree in Business Administration. He also completed post graduate work at UCLA in Public Service Corporation Management.

He joined Southwestern Bell Telephone in 1968 after serving in the US Army. He retired from Southwestern Bell in 1993 and started a second career with the State of Oklahoma, Department of Corrections as director of Oklahoma Correctional Industries in 1999. He retired from the state in December 2016. John David enjoyed reading and fishing with his friend Ed.

JD was preceded in death by his parents, son James William, and a stepson Michael as well as two of his best friends, Dean Caton and David Miller.

He is survived by his wife, Glenda and daughters Kim Garcia-Moral (Carlos), grandsons Payton and Preston; Kerry Chaney (Dillon), granddaughters MacKenzie and Bowen; stepdaughter Jennifer Wynn (Steve), grandsons Drake and Jacob, granddaughters Ireland and Jordyn; and son Ryan (Yolanda), granddaughter Emma and grandson Max. He also leaves behind a host of friends including Ed Evans, Gene Massey, Bob Tomlinson and Ron Jackson, among others he worked with and came to know over the years.

At his request, no public service will be held.
