John Truscott "Johnny" Pellow

John T. Pellow, Sr., 86, died May 17, 2023, in Edmond, OK. He was born January 6, 1937 in Enid, OK to Donald H. Pellow and Ambrozena Pryse Pellow. He was a 1955 graduate of Enid High School, graduated from the University of Oklahoma, and completed his Doctor of Physical Therapy in 1961.Johnny played football at OU from 1955-1959 under Bud Wilkinson. He was a part of the 47-game winning streak and two National Championships. His nickname was the "The Gnat," as he was one of the fastest players on the team. He truly enjoyed the Lunch Box Group of players and coaches from that era of football. Johnny also ran track at OU competing in the 4 x 100 for three years. He was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity.He started his career as a Physical Therapist at Bone and Joint Hospital and was in private practice for about 50 years.Johnny loved boats. He owned the "Daisy Kay" at Lake Keystone as well as "Miss Et Al Inc" and "Cappy's Heisman" at Lake Texoma for over 30 years.Johnny enjoyed all sports, especially playing tennis. He was an avid fan of the New York Yankees. He was a collector of watches (particularly Mickey Mouse) and sports cars. His favorite musician was Frank Sinatra and the love of his life was his wife, Sonja.He was a longtime Sooner football fan and season ticket holder for more than 50 years, attending all home games until recently. He was President of the O Club, President of the Oklahoma Football Letterman's Association, and part of the founding team of the Sooner Club. A highlight for him was going to Dallas with his family for the OU vs. Texas game every year.Johnny is preceded in death by his parents Ambrozena Pryse Pellow and Donald H. Pellow, former wife Kay Lynn Fellers Sturm, and son Jimmy Pellow. He is survived by his wife Sonja Sullivan Pellow of Edmond, sons John (and Sandi) Pellow of Tulsa, Joe Pellow of OKC, daughters Ashley Adams (and Gene Harbort) of Scottsdale, AZ, Hilary (and Chris) Allen of Luther, Jennifer (and Don) Ford of Tulsa, grandchildren Abbey (and Beau) Proctor, Grant Odor, Ashley Pellow, Parker Allen, Cole Allen, Gannon Allen, Austin Feldman, Maddie Feldman, sisters Beth Bradshaw of Dallas, and Ann (and John) Rus of Waukomis, and numerous nieces, nephews, and great-grandchildren.Services will be held at 2:30 PM on Tuesday, May 23 at the Smith & Kernke Funeral Home Chapel, 14624 N May Ave, OKC, OK 73134. The family invites his friends to a reception following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Pellow Outreach at 6601 NW 118th Street.
