June Porter Busby

June Porter Busby, age 93, passed to her eternal life on January 5th, 2023 at Edmond, Oklahoma. June was born on June 15th, 1929 in Big Spring, Texas to Covey Lynn Porter and Bessie (Christian) Porter. She brought with her a twin sister, Jeane. The family moved to Chickasha, Oklahoma in the early 1930's and it became their hometown. June graduated from Chickasha High School in 1947 and continued her education at Oklahoma College for Women (now University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma), graduating in 1955 with a Bachelor of Social Science Degree.June married Bill J. Busby on October 7th, 1955 in Chickasha but made their first home in Lovington, New Mexico where Bill was on assignment with Mobil Oil Corporation. Bill's postings with Mobil took them from New Mexico to Oklahoma, to Wyoming and then back to Oklahoma in 1969. Following Bill's retirement in 1987 in Ardmore, Oklahoma, they moved to Edmond, Oklahoma in 1990 where they lived until the present time.June cherished her work and friends when she was a secretary at the Oklahoma National Bank in Chickasha, as well as when she was a social worker in Campbell County, Wyoming and Grady County, Oklahoma. For most of her adult years, though, June was a homemaker and volunteer. She was an active Episcopal Church Woman for forty years, serving on altar guilds, as a Sunday school teacher, as volunteer manager of a church thrift shop and organizing parish receptions and dinners. She was also a caregiver to her mother for twenty-five years.June was preceded in death by her loving spouse, Bill, in 2015 and her dearest twin sister, Jeane Porter Hester, MD in 2018. She is survived by her "baby" sister, Joan Davis Pope, of Austin, Texas as well as her beloved son Joel Busby and wife Sheila of Coppell, Texas, grandsons Conall and Ross, and five great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her loving niece Judy Ingalsbe of Edmond, Oklahoma and grand-nieces Brittany, Kristen and Sierra as well as her niece Connie Spelce of Austin, Texas, niece Pamela Davis of Brookshire, Texas and nephew Steven Hester of San Marcos, Texas. June was also very appreciative of the loving care she received in her final years from her friend Mila Carrillo and family.Interment will be at Fair Lawn Cemetery in Chickasha, Oklahoma following a family graveside service. The family suggests that those wishing to pay tribute to June make a donation to the Oklahomans for Special Library Services (Oklahoma Library for the Blind), Mercy Health Foundation Oklahoma City (Mercy Hospice) or a charity of your choice.
