Laura Kennedy Gary, 73, passed away on December 20, 2025, in Oklahoma City. She was born on December 5, 1952, in Pawhuska, Oklahoma, to Edmund and Bette (Kilpatrick) Kennedy.
Laura graduated from Pawhuska High School in 1971 and went on to attend the University of Oklahoma where she earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration. After graduating, she met the love of her life, Bob Gary, and they were married in 1982.
While a student at OU, Laura became a member of the Chi Omega sorority and remained dedicated to serving her sorority after graduating. As an alumna, she co-founded Fashion for a Passion, a fundraising event spearheaded by the Oklahoma City Chi Omega Alumnae Chapter, benefiting the non-profit Hearts for Hearing. In recognition of her contributions, Laura was honored as the 2008 Chi Omega Woman of the Year.
Her leadership extended beyond Chi Omega; she also served as President of Panhellenic and was an active member of the Junior League. Furthermore, Laura devoted significant time and energy to Our Lord’s Community Church, fulfilling various roles throughout the years, reflecting her commitment to both faith and community.
Laura loved being a mom. She was a constant presence at her children's sports and extracurricular events, even assuming the role of acting President of the PTA at Quail Creek Elementary School. After her children grew older, Laura loved spending time in her garden and cooking wonderful meals for her family.
Laura was preceded in death by her parents. She leaves behind her devoted husband of 43 years, Robert (Bob) Gary; daughter Kate Hollimon and husband Matthew; son Stephen Gary and wife Deborah; and her cherished grandchildren, Benjamin and Reagan Hollimon, Ramsey, Fischer, and Cash Gary. Laura is also survived by her two sisters, Claire and Blake Kennedy.
A Memorial service to celebrate Laura’s life will be at 2:00 PM on Friday, January 9, 2026 at All Saints Community Church located at 11400 N. Portland Ave, Oklahoma City, OK 73120.
The family suggests memorials in Laura’s name be made to Hearts for Hearing 11500 N. Portland Ave. OKC, OK 73120 or Young Life-Oklahoma City at greaterokc.younglife.org.
