Madeline passed away surrounded by her loving family on April 6, 2026 in Oklahoma City. Madeline was born in Gia Dinh, Vietnam on April 1, 1944. She attended a remote elementary school in Gia Dinh, graduating in the top 5. As a result, she was accepted into the prestigious public high school Gia Long, from which she graduated in the top 5 again. A few years later, she graduated from Saigon University with a bachelor's degree in law. She then went to work at the Office of Post-War Planning, where she met her future husband, Anthony.
After converting to Catholicism from Buddhism, Madeline married Anthony in 1973. In 1974, the couple gave birth to their first son Hai. With Anthony already in the United States, Madeline and Hai left Vietnam as refugees in April 1975, eventually landing in Washington, DC. In December 1975, Madeline and Anthony moved to Oklahoma City to join Anthony's parents. In 1981, their second son Peter was born.
In 1982, Madeline earned a bachelor's degree in accounting at the University of Central Oklahoma. She accepted her first job at Fidelity Bank. She later became an accountant at the Archdiocese of Oklahoma City, where she was proud to serve the Church. Lastly, she loved working with her sons at Affiliated Builders Group, retiring for good in 2021.
She enjoyed several other notable moments in her life, including seeing Pope Francis with her sons in Philadelphia in 2015 and having her article about being a refugee published in the Sooner Catholic.
Madeline was preceded in death by her father, Nhieu Nguyen and her sister, Phuoc Nguyen. She is survived by her husband, Anthony Ha Bui; mother Nen Huynh; sons Hai Bui, and Peter Trung Bui; daughter-in-law Sara Lane Bui; Grandchildren Ethan Bui, Amy Bui, and William Bui; brothers Hiep Nguyen and Hoa Nguyen; and many other beloved extended family members and friends.
