Margaret "Meg" Louise Koerner

Margaret “Meg” Louise Koerner, 85, of Oklahoma City, OK passed away January 10, 2026, after a years-long, courageous battle with cancer.

Meg, the first of three children, was born on June 10, 1940, to Willam Robert “Bob” Koerner and Margaret “Louise” Koerner (Lennox) in Illinois. Meg grew up in Greenwich, Connecticut, but upon her later years of high school, the family moved to Toronto, Canada. While in Toronto, Meg spent many days sailing at the Royal Canadian Yacht Club and enjoyed teaching children to sail in the Junior Sailing Club. Upon completing high school in Toronto, Meg returned to the United States to attend Northwestern University in Evanston, IL where she earned a degree in music. While at Northwestern, Meg was part of the Alpha Delta Pi sorority and Sigma Alpha Iota International Music Fraternity. After graduation, Meg married and the couple briefly made a home in Buffalo, NY where Meg taught strings. The couple moved to Oklahoma City and Meg taught strings at Hefner Junior High in the Putnam City School district.

Later, as a devoted single mother, Meg extended her education at Central State University in Edmond, OK where she earned a master’s degree in reading. She taught remedial reading at Northwest Classen High School. While at Northwest Classen, she took on a second job in the evenings teaching adults to read and write at Metro Tech vocational school. She found this job to be profoundly rewarding and eventually quit working at Northwest Classen and became a full-time reading specialist at the vo-tech.

Starting from a young age, Meg enjoyed playing the cello. As an adult, she spent many years playing in the orchestra at Church of the Servant, and many more years in the Oklahoma City Community Orchestra. She also enjoyed being in the orchestra pit for special productions at the Pollard Theatre in Guthrie, OK, playing weddings and special events in a string quartet, and teaching private cello lessons. Upon retiring from teaching, Meg enjoyed traveling and spending time with the community she found at Mayflower Congregational Church. In addition to family and friends, Meg’s legacy of positivity and kindness was evident in the many cats she cherished and cared for over the years.

Meg is preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her brother, Bill Koerner of Arlington, VA, her sister, Sarah Plumb of Springfield, VA, her sons, Richard Lennox of Midwest City, OK and Scott Lennox of Lewisville, TX, daughter, Julie Forgey and son-in-law, David Forgey of Edmond, OK. She also leaves behind 6 grandchildren, Louis, Madison, Mason, Ethan, Braxton and Avery.

A memorial service will be held January 21, 2026 at 1pm at Mayflower Congregational Church, 3901 NW 63rd Street, Oklahoma City, OK 73116.
