Mariberta Waring

Mariberta Waring, known as MB, was born on October 15, 1945, in Oklahoma City. With a spirit of love and a zest for life, she left this world peacefully at her home in Edmond on August 4, 2025, after a courageous six-week battle with stage 4 lung cancer.

MB attended the University of Oklahoma and initially pursued a degree in interior design, yet her true calling emerged in the world of cosmetology. Over a remarkable thirty-year career she cultivated genuine connections with her clients, often sharing laughter and stories that transformed her workspace into a vibrant gathering place.

MB delighted in hosting gatherings, bringing family and friends together for moments of joy and camaraderie around her favorites place, her backyard and swimming pool. Her home was a sanctuary, exuding warmth and acceptance, where all felt welcomed and cherished. The delightful chaos of her home often echoed with laughter, filled with an assortment of snacks and sweets, and the splashing of water from the countless pool gatherings.

MB was a passionate collector of zebras, having embarked on this unique hobby as a teenager. Her collection reflected not only her whimsical taste but also her love of shopping. She also loved watching movies and indulging in an assortment “piddling” activities, all of which filled her days with joy.

With a heart that overflowed with compassion, MB discovered a new purpose in her retirement through fostering and rescuing Cavalier King Charles Spaniels. She dedicated herself to these dogs, taking in those in need and ensuring that no health challenge was too great for her to tackle. Her legacy will forever be intertwined with the many lives she touched, both human and canine alike.

MB is survived by her daughters, Berkley James and Blair Young, along with their husbands, Brandon James and Jason Young.  She took immense pride in her grandchildren: Grayson James, Graham James, Jennings Young, and Reynolds Young. She is survived by her brother, Will Dickey, caretaker and friend, Charita Miller, the wonderful women that make up her two Bunco groups, as well as her three beloved dogs, who were a significant part of her life and companionship.

MB leaves behind cherished memories for those who loved her dearly, including her late husband, Michael Waring, her mother Mary Eleanor Henderson, her beloved stepfather Robert K. Henderson, her stepbrother Robert (Robin) K. Henderson Jr., her father Theodore Dickey, as well as the many Cavalier King Charles Spaniels she so lovingly rescued throughout her life.

A memorial service to celebrate the life of MB will be held on August 11, 2025, at 11:00 AM at May Ave - Smith & Kernke Funeral Homes & Crematory in Oklahoma City. Reception following.

It is there that we will come together to honor a woman whose laughter, kindness, and boundless love will shine brightly in our hearts forever.
