Maxine Sutton Sprowls

Maxine Sutton Sprowls was born to Earl and Opal Shaffer on February 18th, 1931 in Oklahoma City. She grew up in a home with 4 sisters and 4 brothers. Maxine said that their upbringing emphasized good values based on a strong religious foundation. She spent almost her entire life in Oklahoma City, where she was married to Murl Sutton from 1949 until his death in 1986. In 1958, they welcomed their son Gary. They built a home on Lakeside Drive in the Village in 1961, where she resided for 58 years. Maxine volunteered in the Deaconess Hospital Auxiliary (serving as president in 1969) and joined a PEO Chapter. She later worked for Radiology Associates in the business office, retiring after 25 years of service. She was a longtime member of Covenant Presbyterian Church, serving in the choir, on the Covenant Preschool Board, and as a Deacon.In 1996, Maxine married Louis Sprowls of Cheyenne, Oklahoma. They remained married until his death in 2018. Dinner guests were always in for a great meal, as Maxine enjoyed cooking and entertaining. Her Christmas cookies were a special treat that family members eagerly anticipated. She greatly enjoyed ballroom dancing, collecting antiques, and traveling. People gravitated to her warm personality and steady presence. She was appreciated for her positive attitude and kindness. Maxine made long lasting friendships with members of her church congregation, members of her volunteer organizations, neighbors, coworkers, and people encountered on her travels.Maxine's primary roles were as wife and mother, and she excelled at both. She loved to make holidays a special time for her family. No son ever felt more thankful that he had been blessed with the best mother in the world.Maxine is survived by son Gary Sutton, sisters Earline Brown, Naomi Barnett, and Sharon Davila, and numerous nieces and nephews. Also survived by Louis's son Danny Sprowls, daughter Dianne Savage, and grandchildren. She is predeceased by sister Betty Norris, and brothers Gordon, Jim, Paul, and David.Viewing will be Thursday from 10 a.m. - 7 p.m. at Smith & Kernke N. May. A graveside service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Friday, April 28, 2023 at Memorial Park Cemetery followed by a memorial service at 10:30 a.m. at Covenant Presbyterian Church.
