Michael J. Davis

Michael Joseph “Mike” Davis, affectionately known as “Elk,” passed away April 6, 2026, at the age of 73. A loving and devoted son, brother, husband, father, “Poppa,” and friend, Mike was born and raised in Oklahoma City, the son of the late Charles and Mary Alice Davis.

A gifted athlete from an early age, Mike attended Christ the King and McGuinness High School, excelling in sports and earning scholarships to St. Gregory’s and Oklahoma City University for basketball and golf. Golf remained a lifelong passion—Mike could often be found at Lincoln Golf Course, where he and his buddies led their team to multiple Interclub championships and forged enduring friendships.

Mike began his coaching career in Deweyville, Texas, where he met his beloved wife Charlotte. His coaching journey took him across Texas before he and Charlotte returned to Oklahoma City after the birth of their son. He coached at Western Heights and Moore High School but stepped away when his own children began playing—he never wanted to miss a game. A patient mentor, Mike shared his love of sports, life lessons, and encouragement with every player he coached.

Mike’s family was the center of his life. He cherished his wife Charlotte—his partner of nearly 44 years. Together they built a life of laughter, love, and shared traditions—holiday gatherings in East Texas, and countless backyard barbecues.

Mike loved watching Emily with her family and found joy in the small, everyday moments they shared. Their son Brett inherited Mike’s competitive spirit and love of the game. A talented golfer and devoted son, Brett shared countless rounds of golf, carrying forward Mike’s easy humor, and generosity.

Mike’s greatest delight in later years was being “Poppa.” He adored his grandchildren—Hayes (11), Everleigh (9), and Crew (6)—and treasured every moment with them. He was also a barbecue master, lover of music (always finding his way into the best concerts), OU football, and always enjoyed sharing stories over a Miller Light.

Survived by his children: Brett Davis and Emily Frampton (Chad Frampton); Grandchildren: Hayes (11), Everleigh (9), and Crew (6); siblings: Steve Davis; Mary Pat Love (Charlie); Ann Johnson (Cliff); and a slew of nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by his wife Charlotte; sister Kathy Hauk (Don); parents Charles and Mary Alice Davis.

Visitation will be Thursday, April 16, at Smith & Kernke Funeral Home, 14624 N May Ave, Oklahoma City, OK 73134, from 12:00 PM–7:00 PM (family present 3:00 PM–5:00 PM).

A graveside service will be held Friday, April 17, 1:00 PM at Resurrection Memorial Cemetery, 7500 W. Britton Road.

Mike’s warmth, humor, competitive spirit, and devotion to family will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
