Mike Eckroat

Eckroat, Michael Joseph, age 73, of Scottsdale AZ, died peacefully on February 16, 2024, surrounded by his family. Born July 27, 1950 in Oklahoma City, Mike was the oldest of three children born to Arthur V. Eckroat and Margaret M. Eckroat. Mike graduated from Bishop McGuinness High School and went on to graduate from Oklahoma State University, with a degree in Accounting and Finance.

Mike held several prominent positions in his field of study throughout his early career in both OKC and Tulsa. He established his own accounting practice in Ardmore, OK in the early 1980’s, where he lived with his family for a number of years. He then relocated to Scottsdale, Arizona in 1997 where he transitioned to the vacation ownership industry with notable operators such as Four Seasons Hotel & Resorts and Fairmont Heritage Hotel & Resorts. Mike excelled and deeply loved this part of his career, which gave him opportunities to travel the world with his family and meet new friends that remain to this day.

Michael fell in love with Lohoma M. Morrell while they both attended OSU and married on July 29, 1972. They celebrated 51 years of marriage last July and have been with each other through all of life’s many ups and downs. They have two children, Jennifer and Ryan. Mike had many other loves besides his career, including playing golf, cooking, learning new cooking techniques with his favorite chefs, boating, traveling and more golf.  He and Lohoma loved traveling with friends as well and recently enjoyed a second trip to Alaska to escape the hot summer in Arizona. Mike, most of all, loved being “Poppy” to his two granddaughters. He enjoyed being a part of their lives and their interests and would shower them with love at every opportunity.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived and loved by his wife, Lohoma M. Eckroat; daughter, Jennifer E. Paré of Denver, CO; son Ryan J. Eckroat and daughter-in-law, Jennifer M. Eckroat, grandchildren, Abby S. Eckroat and Emma G. Eckroat, of Overland Park, KS; and brother Donald W. Eckroat and sister-in-law, Janice Eckroat of Oklahoma City, along with beloved nieces and nephews.

A memorial service celebrating Michael’s life will take place on February 26, at 11:00am at The Cathedral of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, 3214 N Lake Ave, Oklahoma City, OK 73118. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation.
