Mildred "Milly" Dearrington

One of 4 children, Milly was born in Hobart, Oklahoma on November 24, 1937 to Sam and Essie (Coffee) Streun. A 1955 graduate of Carnegie High School, she was active in chorus and was editor of the yearbook her senior year. She married a few years afterwards and had 3 children. Later, she earned a B.S. in Special Education and then an M.Ed. in Elementary Education. A devoted teacher, she taught for Irving (Texas) Public Schools, Putnam City Schools, but spent most of her career teaching for Yukon Public Schools at Surrey Hills Elementary before retiring. After a few years, she substituted at Buchanan Elementary School in Oklahoma City Public Schools and not long into that part of her career she accepted a full time teaching position there.

Anyone who knew Milly knew that she adored dancing. She was a square dancer for a number of years, and later took round dancing lessons and immediately fell in love with ballroom dancing. Much of her traveling centered around attending dance conventions.

She was devoted to her family and those family members who pre-deceased her are both parents, a son John Buttry, 2 brothers Don Streun and Ted Streun, and a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins. She leaves behind 2 children, Kathy Buttry (Connie Seabourn), and Robert Buttry, sister Dee Simmons (Ron), nephew Randy Chambers (Deanna), niece Leann Ward, and many great nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Visitation will be Tuesday, January 20, 2026 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Smith & Kernke 14624 N. May Ave.  The family will be present from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.  Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday January 21, 2026 at Resurrection Cemetery Chapel.
