Modesto Lorgio Villafana-Tapia

Modesto Lorgio Villafana-Tapia, 79, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma passed away on October 7, 2023, surrounded by family at his home. He was born to parents Octavia Catalina Tapia and German Villafana, on January 12, 1944, in Huaraz in the Ancash region of Peru. Modesto, called “Lorgio” by his family, completed his secondary education in Peru and received a degree from La Escuela de Bellas Artes in Peru. He worked as an artist in Peru.  After immigrating to the United States in 1981 with his wife and daughter, he worked alongside his wife for approximately 30 years at Saint Anthony Hospital in Oklahoma City. After Modesto’s retirement, he dedicated time to volunteering at SSM Health: St. Anthony Hospital in the Printing Department. He married Miguelina “Meche” Ruiz Lozano, the love of his life, in 1973, who survives him. Modesto is also survived by brother, Victor German Villafana; daughter Rosa Byrne and husband, Justin Byrne; son, Martin Villafana and wife, Laura Villafana; and son, Pedro Villafana and wife, Van Pham, as well as a host of grandchildren. Modesto was predeceased by both his parents, and sister, Sergia Dominica Tapia. Modesto was known for his abundant love for his children, humor, creativity, and his strong work ethic. In addition, he was also known for his poetic rhetoric and his engaging story telling. The rosary service will be held on Tuesday, October 10, 2023, at 7:30 pm at Smith & Kernke at 1401 NW 23rd Street, Oklahoma City.  A funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, October 11, 2023, at 4:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oklahoma City. The family requests that people make donations in support of St. Anthony Hospital Foundation: Nursing Education or Sisters funds, in lieu of sending flowers.
