Olen G. Treadway

Olen G. Treadway passed peacefully from this life on May 19, in Edmond, at the age of 85. The 'Okie from Muskogee' was born at home to Alpha and Pierce Treadway on January 17, 1937. He played on the Oklahoma All Star High School Football team and played quarterback for the University of Iowa Hawkeyes Football Program, from 1957-1960.In 1959, Olen met Sara Jane Treadway, with whom he chose to spend and build a life. He brought his Yankee bride to Oklahoma in the early 1960s, commenting frequently that she was key to his success. For several decades, Olen achieved leadership positions as a banker and later as securities broker.Attention always followed Olen and he rarely met a stranger. He waved and greeted people he didn't know. Olen found escape in landscaping the yard, tending his flowers, and watching and participating in sports. He loved to tell a joke, always chuckling before he could get to the punch line. He wanted his children to have experiences he didn't have growing up which provided family adventures to sporting events, amusement parks, lakes, mountains and beaches. Olen was a man who didn't pass judgment, worked hard, rooted for the underdog, and took responsibilities seriously, which he instilled in his children. He was a true athlete dedicating many afternoons and Saturdays coaching little league baseball and football.Olen fought Parkinson's Disease until the end, never showing fear for himself, and prioritizing the loved ones he would leave behind. Olen is survived by Sara, his wife of 62 years, children Laura Corff, Jim Treadway and Sara Beth Travis, grandchildren Parker Loeffelholz, Will Corff and Dylan Travis.The family thanks Adrian Martin, Hospice Chaplain, and the wonderful staff at Epworth At Home. Adrian formed a special bond with Olen, a connection providing peace and spiritual support during Olen's last months.
