Patrick C. Ryan

Patrick C. (Pat) Ryan, passed away peacefully on May 3, 2025, at the age of 89, with wife Sandie by his side.

Pat was born on June 15, 1935, to Clement and Mary Ryan in Clinton, Oklahoma. He graduated from St. Gregory’s High School (boarding school) in Shawnee, Oklahoma. In 1957, Pat married his high school sweetheart Anna (Toddy) Maguire and they remained together through Toddy’s death in 2005. After Pat and Toddy were married, Pat served in the United States Army and was stationed in Washington, D.C. where Toddy gave birth to their first child Philip. The trio later returned to Oklahoma City where Pat continued his education graduating from Central State University in 1961. The couple had two more children, Michael and Carrie.

Pat returned to school, attending the Oklahoma City University School of Law at night while working for the Oklahoma Insurance Department full time during the day. Upon graduation from law school in 1968, Pat was immediately named general counsel for the Insurance Department. He was next appointed by the governor as the director of the Oklahoma Securities Department and was later appointed by the governor as the director of the Oklahoma Department of Consumer Affairs. In 1974, Pat was appointed to a judgeship with the Oklahoma Worker’s Compensation Court where he rose to the level of “presiding judge” and oversaw the building of the Denver Davison Building which now houses the Oklahoma Workers’ Compensation Commission and the Oklahoma Court of Appeals. While serving as a judge, Pat also found time to teach (his real love) workers’ compensation law as an adjunct professor at the Oklahoma City University School of Law. He was a member of the Oklahoma Bar Association for over 56 years, earning his "50-year pin" in 2018.

In 1984, Pat left the bench to form the law firm known as Boettcher and Ryan with his long time friend, attorney Fred Boettcher. Over the next several years Pat and Fred oversaw the growth of the firm that eventually expanded to offices in Oklahoma City, Tulsa, and Ponca City. Pat retired in 1998 but continued to serve as “of counsel” to the firm (now known as Ryan Bisher Ryan and Simons). In 2010, Pat married Sandie Stanley, and they remained together for the remainder of Pat’s life.

Pat was preceded in death by his parents, Clem and Mary Ryan, and his first wife Anna (Toddy). He is survived by his wife, Sandie; his son Philip, his wife Susan and their children Molly and Patrick; his son Michael, his wife Jennifer and their son Joseph; his daughter Carolyn (Carrie) Garrett, her husband Jerry; and Carrie’s children Cate Poe and Sam Poe. Pat also leaves behind his beloved dog, Charlie.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Friday, May 9, 2025, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Cathedral. Interment will follow at Resurrection Memorial Cemetery at 2:00 p.m.
