Peggy Fitzgerald, 93 years young, was surrounded by her loving family in her home as she peacefully went to be with her Lord and Savior on September 12, 2026. Peggy was born in Cooper, Texas, on July 2, 1933. The youngest of nine children, she earned the early nickname “Baby.” Peggy was the last surviving of her siblings, closing a special chapter of a large and loving family.

To know Peggy was to love her. Affectionately known as “Grammy,” she lived a beautiful life centered on faith, family, friendship, and serving others. She loved Jesus deeply and was her family’s greatest prayer warrior. If you were loved by Grammy, you could be certain she was praying for you.

Peggy was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 50 years, Robert (Bob) A. Fitzgerald. Following Bob’s passing, she was blessed for 15 years with the special companionship of Dick Seabrook. We will always be grateful for Dick and his caring family.

Peggy was cherished by her two children, Steve Fitzgerald and wife Tammy, and Susan Fitzgerald Barta and fiancé Eric Stone; five grandchildren, Dabney Poorter and husband Kelly, Makenzie Pannell and husband Matt, Reid Fitzgerald and wife Briana, Blaire Wilson and husband Brent, and Brock Barta and fiancé Madison Smith; and twelve great-grandchildren, Emma and Madelyn Poorter; Peyton, Adley, Georgia and Hayes Pannell; Cora, Noah, Ford and Anna Fitzgerald; and Cameran and Cooper Wilson. She also leaves behind many cherished nieces and nephews.

Few are fortunate enough to truly know and enjoy their great-grandchildren, and Grammy considered it one of her greatest gifts. When speaking of her family, she would often say, “I am so blessed.” She showed that love by being present, traveling near and far for sporting events, dance recitals, birthdays, and special occasions.

Grammy loved serving others and was involved in P.E.O., Esther Women, Landwives, Whiz Kids, and many bridge groups. She loved to entertain, especially her Christmas Grandmother’s Party with Santa and her famous OU football watch parties. Grammy was an avid Oklahoma Sooners fan—“Boomer Sooner” through and through.

Peggy treasured her many dear friendships and had a special way of making people feel loved, remembered, and prayed for.

A memorial service celebrating Peggy’s life will be held Monday, September 21, at 1:00 p.m. at Smith & Kernke Funeral Home, 14624 N. May Avenue.

Peggy leaves behind a beautiful legacy of faith, family, prayer, and love. She so often said, “I am so blessed,” but those who loved her would say the blessing was ours. Her family finds peace knowing that the Jesus she loved and trusted throughout her life has welcomed her home.
