Peggy Gandy

Peggy Ann Gandy, age 93, passed away peacefully on February 5, 2026, in Charlotte, North Carolina, where she had recently moved. She was born on September 13, 1932, in South Carolina and grew up in Darlington, SC. After her marriage, Peggy and her husband lived in Charlotte, where they raised their daughters, Cathy and Robin. In 1969, the family relocated to Oklahoma City, which she called home until 2025.

Peggy lived a full, busy, and joyful life marked by creativity, humor, and love for her family, friends, and beloved pets—her cat Tutti; poodles Jacque, Newman, and Redford; and Bichon's Beth and Meg. An avid bridge and tennis player, and sometimes proudly known as the “Farkle queen,” she approached life with energy, wit, and a competitive sparkle that never quite left her.

Peggy built a career in journalism of which she was immensely proud. She worked for The Daily Oklahoman as Society Editor and wrote numerous columns for local newspapers and magazines. Known for her sharp humor and keen observations of everyday life, her much-loved humor columns were featured on Gwin Lippert’s KTOK AM radio show, delighting a wide audience and cementing her reputation as a funny and insightful writer. In later years, Peggy continued to share her wit and perspective through her personal blog, where she delighted longtime readers with stories, humor, and reflections on everyday life.

After retirement, Peggy continued to nurture her many friendships, especially through her neighborhood dinner club, of which she was an active member for more than 50 years. Together with her companion, David Tarpenning, she delighted in hosting joyful Christmas parties in her home. Peggy found great happiness tending her flower gardens, spending time with her dogs—and all dogs—and traveling to the beaches of South Carolina, a place that always felt like home to her heart.

Peggy is survived by her daughters, Robin Curlin (Dale) and Cathy Miller (Richard); four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; her sister, Elizabeth Scoville; nieces and nephews; her beloved companion, David Tarpenning; special friends Gwin and Rick Lippert and her wonderful neighbors Judy, Tim, and Kristi, all of whom will carry forward her humor, warmth, and love of life.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, February 21, at 3:00 p.m. at Smith & Kernke’s Chapel, 14624 N. May Ave., Oklahoma City. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Oklahoma Humane Society.
