Phyllis M. McTiernan

Phyllis Crow McTiernan passed away at home after a brief illness on January 23, 2026. She was born to Alta and Edwin J. Crow in Muskogee, Oklahoma on August 19,1930. She grew up in Oklahoma City along with her older brother, Dayl. After graduating from Classen High School, she attended the University of Oklahoma for a short time.

Phyllis and William B. “Pat” Patterson, Jr. were married in 1950. They had two daughters, Phoebe and Sydney.

In 1988, she married the love of her life, James McTiernan. Theirs was a relationship of devotion for the ages until James’ death in 2012.

In addition to her husband, he was predeceased by her son-in-law, David Farris, James’ daughter and son, Marca January and John McTiernan.

Phyllis was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church. She was inducted into the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem. Her faith and her church were cornerstones of her life.

She is survived by Phoebe Sumner of Rogers, Arkansas, Sydney Farris of Oklahoma City, Karen and Michael Spohr of San Marcos, California, April and Patrick McTiernan of Oklahoma City, Connie and Michael K. McTiernan of Guthrie, Oklahoma, and James W. McTiernan, Jr.

“Nena” was beloved by her many, many grandchildren and great grandchildren and she always had her candy dish on the coffee table ready for them to enjoy.

Mom/Nena was an aficionado of The Daily Oklahoman’s crossword/cryptoquotes, Seinfeld, and Jelly Bellys.

Private graveside service followed by memorial reception Thursday, February 5, 2026 from 1:00-3:00pm at Quail Creek Country Club, 3501 Quail Creek Rd, Oklahoma City, OK 73120. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the charity of your choice.
