Robert Edward Thomasson

Robert Edward Thomasson was born on November 25, 1933 in Muskogee, Oklahoma to Ray Emmitt and Annetta (Pefley) Thomasson. As an only child, he was treasured. The family moved to Oklahoma City when Robert was young and established their home on NW 30th in Military Park. They quickly found a welcoming community less than a mile away at Wesley United Methodist Church. It was here that Robert grew his faith and gained a church family for life. He taught Sunday School, served on the finance committee, and attended weekly services until his death.

As a child, Robert would walk with neighborhood friends to school at Putnam Heights Elementary until he started attending Harding Junior High where he was a straight A student. He attended Northwest Classen High School where he was a four-year member of the marching band, playing alto saxophone. His love for band continued at the University of Oklahoma where he played in the Pride of Oklahoma his freshman year before deciding to focus on accounting and graduated in 1955.

Like many other men of his generation, he selflessly volunteered to join the US Army after graduation. He served at Fort Chaffe, AR where he earned the rank of sergeant. Upon his discharge, he moved back to Oklahoma City where he worked for Security Federal Savings and Loan Association. He gradually proved his honesty and work ethic while rising to the position of President and Regional Manager.

Outside of employment, Robert loved community. His passion was serving local children through his work with Uptown Kiwanis where he served as president. His work in finance led him to develop a love of coins and he enjoyed collecting with the Oklahoma City Coin Club. Through it all, he honored his mother deeply and took care of her until her death at 101.

Robert lived a humble life and his legacy will live on through his numerous charitable endeavors. In honor of our friend please attend a church service of your choice, knock on your neighbor's door to say "hello", and if you are lucky enough to have the opportunity to hug your mother please do so. Well done, good and faithful servant.

Robert will be remembered at a graveside service on his 92nd birthday, Tuesday, November 25, 2025, at 2:30 pm at Memorial Park Cemetery.
