Robert Wallace King, M.D.

Robert Wallace King, M.D. (Bob) passed away Jan 3, 2013, at St. Anthony Hospital following a short illness. Born in OKC on Sept. 27, 1921 to Olga Wykert King and Arthur King, Bob graduated from Classen High School in 1939, and then OU in 1943 with a degree in engineering. He was a member of Beta Theta Pi. He married Evalyn Lou Lowry (Lou) in 1942. Upon graduation, he was commissioned into the U.S. Air Force and was stationed in New York City during World War II. Following the war they returned to OKC where Bob attended Medical School at OU. This was followed by a one year internship at St. Anthony Hospital and a three year residency in ophthalmology at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, OH. In 1953, he opened a practice in ophthalmology in OKC and practiced until he and Lou moved to Bella Vista, AR in 1988. During his years of practice, he was an active member of the downtown Rotary Club, and was a founding director of Guaranty Bank in 1963. Bob continued as an active member of the Board of Directors of Coppermark Bank until 2011. He introduced the first laser machine for diabetic eye disease to Oklahoma in 1969. He volunteered much of his time to services for the blind. He was an avid sportsman and a devoted family man. He was preceded in death by his wife, Evalyn Lou Lowry King (Lou), and his daughter Jean Elizabeth (Lisa) Brashear. He is survived by his three children, daughter Sheryl L. Jacobs and husband Robert W. Jacobs of Lawrence, KS, son Robert W. (Rusty) King, Jr., MD and wife Jeanne Ann King, MD of OKC, daughter Rebecca K. Schneider and husband, Kevin Gilliland of OKC and son-in-law Herb Brashear of San Antonio, TX. Also surviving him are nine grandchildren Robert King Jacobs of Wichita, KS, Jennifer Elizabeth Jacobs Higdon of Denver, CO, David Andrew Jacobs of Denver, CO, Anna Christina King of OKC, Betsy Lowry King of OKC and Emily Margaret King of Malibu, CA., Alicin Elizabeth Reavis of Los Angeles, CA, Rachel Dawn Howell of Wichita, KS, and Kristen Ann Schneider of OKC, and eleven great-grandchildren, Raen Coleman Reavis and Ian Greigh Baggett, both of OKC, Ashton Jordan Howell and Trinity Abigail Howell, Peyton Blake Lill, all of Wichita, KS, Ariana Bailey White of OKC, Riley Elliott Higdon and Haddon Bennett Higdon, both of Denver, CO, Kingston Elena Jacobs and Pierson Robert Jacobs, both of Wichita, KS and Gabe Mutchler of Tucson, AZ. Bob was respected for both his professional skills, and his business sense. He was loved and admired by his family, and will be deeply missed. A Memorial Service will be held on January 28, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at Chapel Hill United Methodist Church, 2717 West Hefner. Memorials may be sent to the St. Anthony Hospital Foundation.
