Russell “Rusty” Robert Waters was born November 5th 1959, and passed October 14th 2026 after a sudden and unexpected illness. Rusty was widely known as one of the world’s nicest guys. After graduating from John Marshall High School in 1978, Rusty attended the University of Oklahoma and remained a true Sooner fan and season ticket holder for many years; Although he didn’t attend a lot of games, he loved to give his tickets to his friends! He also became a very serious Oklahoma City Thunder fan, and also a season ticket holder. Many of those tickets were also shared with friends and family. Rusty was truly one of the most generous spirits and kindest hearts you would ever know, and if you were fortunate enough to know him, consider yourself lucky! He worked for many years as a Landman in the oil & gas industry in Oklahoma, starting with Bogert Oil in 1983; Louis Dreyfus Natural Gas; Dominion Exploration & Production; Continental Land Resources; Ward Petroleum Corporation; and Red Wolf Natural Resources. In retirement, Rusty enjoyed lunching with friends, going to the family Lakehouse at Eufaula, and walking at Northpark Mall, sometimes walking a marathon in a day over a couple of walks. He was a lover of music, particularly 70’s rock music, and watched every music documentary ever made. Stevie Nicks, The Eagles, Supertramp, Ella Langley, and Miranda Lambert were a few of his favorites. Back in the day, he enjoyed many ski trips with his buddies to Steamboat Springs, as well as a few Vegas trips to place some bets. Monday night of the NCAA championship game was always a big poker tournament with his friends. He enjoyed all of the Taylor Sheridan shows on Paramount, especially Lioness and unfortunately, he did not get to see the season finale. Rusty always believed lunch to be the most important meal of the day and would always make it an absolute social hour for anybody that was in attendance. Rusty loved to tell stories and hear stories and he loved to laugh and had a wonderful sense of humor that will be missed by many. He is preceded in death by his mother and father (Lou and Robert Waters), both of whom he cared for deeply and took care of in their latter years.
He is survived by his brother Randy and his wife Lori Waters and his nephews Chad and Josh, and way too many best friends to list.
