Ruth Helen Schmitz-Chastain

Ruth H. Schmitz-Chastain, 95, passed away Oct. 29, 2020, in Oklahoma City. She was born June 17, 1925, in Kingman, KS, the daughter of Agnes and Francis Thissen. She graduated from Cathedral High School in Wichita, KS. Ruth was a member of St. Eugene's Parish and the Altar Society. She taught ballroom dancing at the Moose Lodge for 35 years; mom will have them laughing and dancing in heaven. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Max B. Schmitz in 2010 and Ernie Chastain in 2016, daughter, Janis Kay Schmitz; sister, Margie Osner; and two brothers, Bill and Gene Thissen. She is survived by seven children: Gerald Schmitz (Ann), Pat Schmitz (Carrie), Scott Schmitz (Patty), Judy Cecere, Dotty Paluska (Mike), Jeannie Blehm (Gary), and Nancy Almaraz (Louis); one sister, Alice Atchison; 16 grandchildren; and 30 great grandchildren. An evening prayer service will be held Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2020, at 6 p.m. at Smith & Kernke on N. May. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, Nov. 5, 2020, at 11 a.m. at St. Eugene Catholic Church, 2400 W. Hefner Road. Burial will follow at Resurrection Memorial Cemetery.
