Scranton George Nesbitt II 1941 – 2026
Scranton George Nesbitt II was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma in 1941. He graduated from Harding High School in 1959 and went on to serve in the United States Army. After his service, he earned a degree from Central Oklahoma College — now the University of Central Oklahoma — and a master's degree from Arizona State University.
Scranton built a 32-year career as an explosives engineer for the United States Navy. He was a consummate engineer in all areas of life, always ready and willing to roll up his sleeves and fix things himself.
He loved the outdoors — camping, fishing, and waterskiing were among his greatest pleasures. His faith in Jesus Christ was the foundation to his life, and he was a longtime member of Fourth Presbyterian Church in Bethesda, Maryland and Heritage Presbyterian Church in Edmond, Oklahoma.
Scranton was preceded in death by his wife, Cheryl Williams Laverty Nesbitt; his parents, Scranton George Nesbitt I and Mildred Grove Nesbitt; and his aunt, Emma Grove. He is survived by his stepdaughter, Erin Laverty, and his cousin, Beverly Nesbitt Daughtry.
Funeral services to celebrate Scranton's life will be 11:00 am Tuesday, June 2, 2026 at Heritage Presbyterian Church (14500 N. Western Ave. Edmond, OK).
