Sister Therea Schmidlkofer

Sister Theresa Schmidlkofer was born Theresa Mae Schmidlkofer to Frank Schmidlkofer and Nellie (Tescier) Schmidlkofer in Shawnee, OK on December 1, 1931. Her siblings included her six brothers: Frank, Vincent, Leo, Bernard, Paul, and Joseph; her three sisters: Rita, Mary, and Rosie. Sister experienced her early education and High School at St. Benedicts, Shawnee, OK. She continued her education and received a B.A. at Webster University, St. Louis, MO; an M.A.T. from Notre Dame University, Notre Dame, IN; also, Certificate from CPE, St. Louis University, St. Louis, MO.Sister Schmidlkofer entered the Sisters of Mercy at Webster Groves, MO on September 8, 1949, and made her final profession of religious vows on August 16, 1956. In 1959, Sister began her teaching career at Sacred Heart Elementary School, Oklahoma City, OK. She also taught at Mount St. Mary's High School, Oklahoma City, OK; St. Charles Borromeo School, Oklahoma City, OK; St. Joseph School, Slaton, TX; Our Lady of Guadalupe School, Amarillo, TX; and Mercy High School, St. Louis, MO. Sister was later missioned as Director of Young Adult Ministry, Archdiocese of Oklahoma City, OK; Social Services Director at Bethany Village Nursing Home, Oklahoma City, OK; and Pastoral Associate, Senior Outreach Program, Sacred Heart Parish, Oklahoma City, OK. Sister Theresa was later missioned in 2016 to Mercy Health Center Convent, Oklahoma City, OK. Sister continued her daily prayers and enjoyed taking care of the Convent flowers, reading, and feeding the birds. She continued to love and was loved by her family, community members and co-workers. Sister was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, and sisters. Immediate survivors include her nieces: Catherine Brandon and Cynthia Hickson and their families, many other nieces, nephews and their families, Sisters of Mercy, Mercy Co-workers, Mercy Associates, friends, compassionate physicians, and caregivers.Mass of Christian burial on Monday, May 23, 2022, at 11:00 am at Mercy Health Center convent, Oklahoma City with burial to follow at Resurrection Memorial Cemetery.
