Sr. Gertrude Marie Kotthoff

Sr. Gertrude Marie (Patricia Marie) Kotthoff completed her earthly life December 30, 2020 at St. Ann Nursing Home. She was born on March 18, 1929 at St. Francis Hospital, Tulsa OK to Golda Brace and Joseph Kotthoff both of whom preceded her in death. Two brothers also preceded her in death: Joseph and Daniel Kotthoff. She is survived by her sister, Barbara Kotthoff Kraemer of Houston Texas, her namesake nephew Patrick of Houston and Philip Kramer of San Antonio, Texas; and other Kraemer nephews and cousins in Texas. Also surviving are Kotthoff niece, nephew and cousins in the Tulsa area. Her niece, Danita Kotthoff of Sands Spring and Dan Kotthoff of Tulsa, Mrs. Kotthoff of Tulsa. Sister grew up in Tidewater Camp, south of Drumright OK, went to Drumright High School and then entered the Carmelite Sisters at Villa Teresa in August of 1949. Sister professed her final vows in June of 1957. Sister's professional background was earned from many institutions: Ursuline College, Paola KS; Benedictine College, Tulsa OK; Oklahoma City University, OKC; St. Mary, Leavenworth KS; Incarnate Word College, San Antonio TX; Loyola University Los Angeles CA. Sister taught many elementary grades from Kindergarten to 6th grade, was a bookkeeper, and taught Piano. Among her many missions were Little Flower and Villa Teresa OKC, OK; Sts. Peter and Paul, Cushing OK; Villa Teresa, Tulsa, OK; St. Helen Church, Frederick, OK and St. Catherine's Church as Pastoral Assistant, Talihina, OK. Sister's last years were spent at St. Ann Nursing Home where she helped with music for liturgy and prayed for priests. Sister had a remarkable memory and was interested in many things and could thus discuss many topics with aplomb. She will be missed by her community, but we know that she will be singing loud and proud in heaven, especially her favorite song: Lift High the Cross.
