Sunshine Myers

Dr. Sunshine Sanger Sullivan Myers passed away peacefully at her home on March 18, at the age of 102. She was born on March 12, 1922, in Yukon, Oklahoma, to Edwin E. and Alta M. Bradfield Sanger.

Sunshine attended Stephen’s College where she pursued her passions for theatre, dance, music, and horses.  She then transferred to University of Oklahoma where she was a member of Delta Gamma Sorority, played in the Marimba orchestra and graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts.

After receiving her dental degree from the University of Texas, she passed both the Texas and Oklahoma Dental boards, moved to Oklahoma City where she married O. Gordon Sullivan, began practicing dentistry, and started her family of four children. As one of the first women dentists in Oklahoma, she remained active in both the Texas and Oklahoma Dental Associations throughout her life and especially enjoyed the Retired Dentist's Association. She founded the first Dental Hygiene program in Oklahoma, at Rose State.

She was active at First Presbyterian Church, an avid golfer, bridge, and mahjong player, and enjoyed participating in Delta Gamma, Junior Hospitality, St. Nicholas Guild, Oklahoma Art League, and Daughters of the American Revolution.

She later married Judge William S. Myers, Jr. and joined Westminster Presbyterian.   In addition to her other interests, she truly enjoyed her ever expanding family, traveling, her home in Palm Springs and participating in Oklahoma Bar Association and auxiliary activities.

Predeceased by her parents and brothers Edwin and Rowdy Sanger, and George Bradfield, she is survived by children Sheryl S. Sullivan, Gaye Sullivan Sherman (Stephen), G. Bradfield Sullivan, and Laura E. Sullivan; grandchildren Sanger Sullivan Clark (Brittany), Emma Sherman Sayler (Bryan), Augie Sherman (Alexa), Micah Sherman (Elizabeth), Leah Sullivan Ojeda (Daniel), Lydia Sullivan Benham (David), Gatlin B. Sullivan, Colton R. Sullivan, Lauren Wendt Elmore (Alexander) Christina Wendt; and,  great-grandchildren Blythe, Isla, Cook, Costa, Alma, Nova, and Hawke.

The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to Paula Smith for her unwavering dedication, love, care and support in Sunshine’s last 7 years, and to Kamden Chambers for her wonderful care & kindness this last year.
