Susan Catherine Hughes Willoughby

Susan Catherine (Hughes) Willoughby passed away February 25, 2020. She was born July 30, 1943, in Abilene, TX, the daughter of COL (Ret) Harry W. Hughes Sr. and Margaret Williams Hughes. She grew up in Oklahoma and graduated from NW Classen High School in 1961. She then attended OSU. Susan worked as a legal secretary. She loved all animals, especially dogs, and treasured reading. Even though born in Texas, she was a fan of both OU and OSU football. Susan was a very loving person and her warm smile brought joy to everyone she met. She had many friends and delighted in attending plays and other group activities with them. She was a member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church and enjoyed attending Esther Women's group meetings. Susan was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Willoughby, in 2001; her parents, and a brother, Harry Jr. She is survived by two stepdaughters, Melissa Willoughby and her partner Pat Grenz, and Christie Stricker and her husband Tad; two sisters, Martha Gillingham and Shirley Hughes and her husband Mike Walentiny; sister-in-law, Judy Hughes; four grandchildren, Drew, Grant and Sarah Stricker, and Mayme Grenz; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended relatives. She is also survived by her special group of friends for over 30 years, "The Dorks" – Donna Lamberti, Vicki Snow, Beverly Smith, and Sharon Stumpff. Memorial services will be held Monday, March 2, 2020, at 11:00am at St. Luke's United Methodist Church Watchorn Chapel, 222 NW 15th Street.In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Oklahoma Alliance for Animals, 5321 S. Sheridan Road, Suite 30, Tulsa, OK 74145.
