Sylvia Brannon

Sylvia Brannon Milavic, 84, of Edmond, passed away peacefully on January 5, 2026, in the city where her life began.

Sylvia was born on December 1, 1941, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, to Mary Smissen Strong and William Davis Strong. She pursued higher education at Oklahoma State University and later, as a devoted single mother, continued her studies at Southern Nazarene University, where she earned her degree — a testament to her determination, strength, and lifelong commitment to learning.

Sylvia enjoyed a career with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), where she met the love of her life, Jack Milavic. They shared a deep and enduring bond until Jack’s passing.

Above all else, Sylvia considered her most important work to be that of mother and grandmother. She is survived by her daughter, Mendy, her cherished grandson, Thomas, who lovingly called her “Aba,” and her sons, John and Michael. She is also survived by her brother, William Richard Strong, and his wife, Jodie Strong.

Sylvia loved traveling, cooking, and painting, and she found joy in creativity and in sharing life’s moments with those she loved. Her life was grounded in a strong faith in God, which guided her through both joy and hardship.

Sylvia will be remembered for her quiet strength, resilience, kindness, and unwavering devotion to her family. Her legacy of love and faith will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her. Services will be held at Smith & Kernke Funeral Home on Friday, January 16, 2026, at 11:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to World Central Kitchen a non-profit organization close to Sylvia's heart.
