Tamara Kay Chumard

Tamara Kay Chumard, affectionately known as Tammy, passed away peacefully at her home in Edmond on May 25, 2026, after a hard-fought battle with cancer. Born on September 12, 1958, in Norman, Oklahoma, the daughter of Harry and Nola Bryant.

Tamara grew up in Oklahoma City and was a proud graduate of Northwest Classen High School. In 1976, her love and passion for music were recognized when she was named Female Vocalist of the Year. She cherished music deeply, possessing a gift for singing along with a natural talent for dance.

Tamara was a beloved Jazzercise instructor in her younger years but found her true calling in supporting education. She was a dedicated teacher's assistant in her daughter's class and served as a substitute teacher for many years, touching countless lives with her kindness and patience. Above all, however, her most notable and treasured role was that of a mother and a Grammy. She was a doting grandmother, always ready to play on the floor with her grandchildren, playing dress up, or engaging them in arts and crafts projects.

Tammy is survived by her devoted husband of more than 37 years, Jim Chumard; her son, Josh Simons, and his wife, Jenny; her daughter, Audra Anderson, and her husband, Isaac; and her stepson, Jade Chumard. She also leaves behind five beloved grandchildren: Emily, Parker, Avery, Kinley, and Livie; her brother, David Bryant; her sisters, Christy Cassi and her husband, Mike, and Barbara Waggoner and her husband, John; along with several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents.

A funeral service to honor and celebrate Tamara’s life will be held on Friday, May 29, 2026, at 1:00 PM at the Smith & Kernke N. May Chapel, Oklahoma City, OK. Attendees are kindly requested to wear shades of blue and purple in tribute to her vibrant spirit. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
