Wanda Jo Jones

Wanda Jo Jones longtime resident of Oklahoma City passed away on September 1st at her daughters residence where she had lived for the past several years. She was 77 years old at the time of her death.

Wanda was born on September 24, 1948 to Irven Sullivan and Betty Townsend. She was raised in Enid Oklahoma and attended Oklahoma State University where she fell in love with Elvis and became a traveling groupie, attending his concerts through the mid west. Wanda was an extremely hard working single mother working multiple jobs to support herself and her daughter. Wanda married the love of her life Rick Jones on February 14th, 1985. Rick was her whole world and together they raised 3 incredible daughters. Wanda opened her own travel agency and she and Rick enjoyed traveling the globe together “scouting” exotic locations for others to one day enjoy. Wanda loved the Oklahoma State Cowboys no matter what kind of season they were having and was a huge OKC Thunder fan

Wanda and Rick were extremely spiritual and they were members of St. John Nepomuk catholic church in Yukon. When Rick passed away on June 30th, 2004 Wanda’s heart was broken but she trusted in her faith to carry her through. She moved to Sutton Place where she found amazing friends that became her new family. She was a member of Christ the King church and attended services faithfully. She was a risky woman, delivering meals on wheels to some unsafe neighborhoods with her trusty sidekick Earlene King. She would have cocktail hour with her dear friends Mary Jo and Don Spears. In retirement she couldn’t just stay home and relax so she got a job at Bath and Body works, making even more friends. She also volunteered with CASA and the civic center.

Wanda’s greatest joy, however, was her grandchildren. Wanda truly cherished helping raise her three beautiful granddaughters Darian, Peyton, and Sydney. Wanda took special pride watching her granddaughters compete in their sporting events and even had to take several trips with Sydney for gymnastics. The family had to split up and be in three different states on the same weekend due to sporting schedules. Her grandsons Chase and Cole brought a special light to her heart and made her feel close to Rick again. Wanda was born to be a Grammy and would be a constant calming presence in their lives. She was always happy and was the most selfless person that has ever lived.

Wanda is survived by her daughters Danielle Parsons, Lori McLaughlin, and Julie Rogers. Her son in laws Michael Parsons, Mike McLaughlin, and Micah Rogers and her grandchildren Darian Parsons, Peyton Beres, Sydney Parsons, Chase McLaughlin, and Cole McLaughlin, and her brother Max.

Services for Wanda Jo will be on September 10th, at 1 pm at Resurrection Memorial cemetery chapel.
