William R. McDermott

 

William R. McDermott, 51, passed away Wednesday, November 22, 2023, at Robert Wood Johnson Hospital in New Brunswick, New Jersey.

 

William lived with and is survived by his loving Mother Marilyn, Stepfather Don Kuna and his Father Richard L. McDermott in the Middlebush section of Somerset. He is also survived by one sister, Karen (Douglas) Jones, and one brother, Steven (Sunyoung) McDermott.  He has two nieces and two nephews, Mason Jones, Elizabeth Jones, Charlie McDermott and Joy McDermott.  He is predeceased by his maternal grandparents Merle T. Baldwin and Marian King Baldwin of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

 

His infectious laugh and beautiful smile will be missed by his direct support of 25 years, Terry Williams and for the last five years Anne Olumasayi.

 

Surviving William are also 3 stepbrothers, a stepsister and their families:  Dan (Luanne) Kuna, David (Christine) Kuna, Daryl (Marybeth) Kuna and DeAnne (Erik) Moore.

 

William attended Somerset County Day Training Center, graduating from Franklin Township High School before receiving services from Gannet, an adult ARC center.  While attending both he also had a position at Manville High School.  He was an early participant in a NJ support system called Self Determination.  He received services and support from Easter Seals, Delta, Home Watch Care, Neighbors and the New Jersey Division of Developmental Disabilities.

 

He loved the Yankees and followed the Giants.  

 

He was a beloved member of the United Methodist Church at New Brunswick. 

 

A graveside Committal ceremony will be held at Chapel Hill Funeral Home & Memorial Gardens, 8701 NW Expressway, Oklahoma City, OK on Thursday December 7 at 10:00 AM.
